"Tortured Soul"

Daniel 6:27, “He delivereth and rescueth...”

Imagine with me for a brief moment…

Allow your imagination to depict a torture chamber, kind of like in those old war/spy films. You know, where the good spy gets caught by the villains? Then begins the process of all those hellish actions known as “interrogation” which are released upon this captured individual – all for the purpose of retrieving coveted vital information before death becomes a possibility. Imagine with me: the person in the room being tortured. They are screaming, calling out for some kind of help, they become exhausted to the point of passing out, with no strength left what so ever, they collapse merely to hang there like a limp puppet from the chains holding them up. However, what this spy does not know is on the other side of that door is an inside man anxiously waiting for the precise time to barge in and save his comrade. BUT, the only obstacle is that he must wait for the precise moment or the rescue mission will be in vain, thus ending with both of them captured and no hope for escape. Timing is everything. Until then, this 2nd party individual (within his waiting) HAS to endure the tormented, blood curdling screams of his partner until he is given the “go”. Not exactly the ideal situation one would desire themselves to be in.

With all that being said, you now have a picture in your mind of a dark foreboding place and the transpiring events surrounding this particular focus point – a torture chamber.

Now let me bring it home. Often times we go through horrendous events in our lives. Some of these events we witness and others may be events that have affected you personally. These events can be extremely dark, very low, lonely places that we hide away in. Yet, in the dark moments (when we are alone) we become tortured souls in anguish. Perhaps it’s thoughts, memories, self-perspective, self-afflictions, and substance abuse etc... Anything for a brief moment to forget or even feel again. We sit there crumpled up in a heap, tears streaming down our faces, confusion bombarding us, voices of despair taunting us, and all you can manage to get out between breathless sobs of mixed emotions and fears is “GOD WHERE ARE YOU? WHY ME???!!!!” What in the world went wrong? Am I the “chosen” one that gets to see the evil side of life? Why am I this way? Why am I in this place?

Here are MY questions to YOU. Do you want God? Do you Want TRUTH? Do you want HEALING? Do you want DELIVERANCE? Do you want these things? Are you truly ready to LET GO???? Simple questions, yet, do you see the profundity in them.

Getting back to the torture chamber, the spy being ruthlessly tortured, and the partner having to wait for the precise timing to be able to VICTORIOUSLY rescue his comrade, so that the mission is a SUCCESS. Is this you????

God does NOT, by any means, desire to see us go through the situations in our lives that we as humans end up experiencing as a result of the fall. The Bible says Christ is touched by the feelings of our infirmities as well (Hebrews 4:15), so everything we feel Christ feels as well. Imagine God as that man on the other side of the door desiring to break down the door to rescue you. Hearing your tortured screams is tearing him up inside! However, now get this, OUR WILLINGNESS to be rescued cannot be temporary, it must go past our emotional instability. Our willingness must be derived from our very soul. Our human will, despite our past, our traumas, regrets, states of depression, and loneliness, etc… is the ONLY obstacle. The actions we have performed in order to cope, the attempts to find some kind of release/relief, the decisions on our part, ALL of it comes down to our own will. God will not surpass your will until YOU permit the DOOR TO BE OPENED. Then and ONLY then will God burst in, ready and longing to save you and to restore you. God never left you. He was simply waiting for the correct timing, the precise moment when YOU were ready to be rescued by Him because then and only then can the mission be VICTORIOUS.

I remember in my own (personal) moments of intense darkness… I would cry out to God, sobbing before Him, breaking inwardly till I literally hurt inside. But, despite all of those emotional upheavals I was not ready to be rescued, although, my physical actions said I was, inwardly (spiritually) I was not ready. Why do you say that, you may ask. Because, I kept going back and returning to my past, my torments (IF you will). Like the saying goes, “A gluten for punishment”, it fit me well. I could not let go and let God have my pain filled, dark, hideous, shame filled, ugly areas. So, I coped as I did, being tormented by myself and the environment I built in the attempt to deal with it alone. All I did was bury myself deeper and deeper. The problem with burying one’s self is the deeper you keep going, inevitably you will die — it’s a fact of life.

So, are you ready? Truly to be rescued?

Deuteronomy 20:4, “For the LORD your God [is] he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, TO SAVE YOU.”

Psalms 34:6, “This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of ALL his troubles.”

Luke 1:37, “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”

Revelation 21:4, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things ARE PASSED AWAY.”

And lastly,

John 8:32, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you FREE.”
